A worthwhile change. Two sisters’ search leads to a thriving farm, and a regenerative brand.

Cerro Azul has not always been a regenerative farm. Until a few years ago, it was a conventional cattle and crop farm, experiencing the negative impact of agrochemicals, overgrazing, soil degradation, loss of biodiversity and high production costs. Undoubtedly, a change was needed. Bettina and Carola searched for a positive-impact strategy. When they discovered regenerative livestock management, in 2019, their chosen path for Cerro Azul was clear: The farm was transformed all at once.

Cerro Azul is rewarding this transformation generously. Biodiversity is multiplying, visible in the fauna, flora and micro-fauna. The land is becoming more resilient against flooding and drought. Long-established pastures carry sufficient grass in winter, the animals need little forage, if at all. Costs have decreased, work is more rewarding. Cerro Azul is thriving.

2019

CONVERSION TO REGENERATIVE MANAGEMENT

Focused on soil regeneration and carbon capture.

2020

100% on-farm pasture breeding and fattening

Honoring our animals’ well-being, our cattle live on Cerro Azul’s pastures throughout their life.

2021

Launching our regenerative brand Cerro Azul

We offer products with a positive impact on our planet.

Nature is our guide. We aim to heal soil and sequester carbon.
We do so through regenerative management.

We follow nature. We do not till the soil, we foster maximum soil coverage and an increase in biodiversity, we respect recovery periods for our pastures and thus encourage the growth of high plants with strong roots, capturing carbon via photosynthesis. All this, we achieve solely through animal impact.

Our pastures are organic, strong and diverse. Our animals fertilize and decompress the soil while grazing. Nature can reveal itself and is rewarding us.

High impact,
over a short period,
followed by ample rest.Regenerative cattle management.

Copying the grazing patterns of wild bison, our large cattle herds remain on the same pasture area for up to three days, the pasture fields are much smaller than in conventional grazing management. The resulting animal impact is intense. Much wandering around loosening up the soil, much manure offering nutrition to the soil and thus preserving it. Our pastures are accorded abundant recovery time, the plants’ roots grow deep providing essential access to nutrients and water. The soil prospers.

Nature is our guide.

We observe and act accordingly.

We take responsibility and are accountable and expect the same from all involved.

We make decisions on the basis of ecological, social and financial considerations, giving these aspects equal weight.

We collect data to document the evolution of the camp.

We share and collaborate.

We observe nature meticulously and work with nature accordingly.

We continue to observe, question and seek ways forward that benefit all those affected by our actions.

We establish strict internal controls and accounting standards.

We seek an independent evaluation of our actions and developments in the field.

Soil contains more than 25% of our planet's biodiversity, it provides about 95% of our food. Depleted soil threatens our survival on this planet. More than 30% of the world's soil is degraded.

REGENERATION

San Huberto, home to a herdof red deer.

The heart of the farm is the forest San Huberto, located towards the Cordillera de los Andes, a very diverse native forest, largely untouched. Red deer share this land with pumas and wild boar. We protect this precious ecosystem as a biodiverse, transformational, healing space, consciously deciding against commercial wood exploitation inside this forest.
